 PROJECT EVEREST

EVEREST

build concept

A bus with full time off grid capabilities

The idea of unconventional living has appealed to me for quite some time.  It's the experiences, uncertainty, and sense of adventure that draw me to it. Where this idea originally came from I have no clue. The ability to go wherever you choose without being bound to anything is a luxury not many have.

This is where I came to the idea of converting a bus to a fully capable off grid living quarters including all the features a normal home would have. It would utilize modern technology including solar energy, reverse osmosis water filtration, and high speed internet connectivity via Star Link.

Bus conversions are commonly referred as "skoolies" since a lot of bus conversions start from the body of a school bus. If done right the end product is stunning and quality material is better than most traditional homes and a lot less expensive.

There is a lot that goes into building one of these and the options are endless. That is why planning ahead is a very good idea.

So, when am I going to start the build? At this point I am deciding if this crazy idea is even possible or practical. Depending on what is done during the build, skill level, and help, it can take only a few months or up to a year or more.  I have not yet committed to the idea of building out a bus but am serious enough about the topic that I created this website so I can share my vision with you. Even if it never does become a reality the fun I have sharing my ideas and creating mockups is worth the time.  :)

NAME

I came up with the name "Everest" for multiple reasons. When designing the bus I wanted white for the base color because it does well in the heat. That lead me to think about things that I relate to the color white. It also had to be something related to the outdoors. Like a lot of people, I think of snow. What else is found in nature that can be white? Mountains! I looked up a lot of mountains around the world but nothing struck me as the infamous Mount Everest. The name just... sounds... cool. :)

DESIGN

Picking the right combination of colors is not an easy task. I played around with the color pallet for quite some time. As stated before I decided on white as the base color simply because it performs well in heat. I wanted something different but simple and also have a retro look. After playing with many designs I came up with the one you see above. straight blue, black, and burnt orange lines wrapping around the entire bus with a coat of silver complimenting them on the bottom skirts of the bus.  The main colors in the middle of the bus represent the sky during different times of the day. blue for daytime, black for night, and orange for morning and evening.

INTERIOR

Designs for the interior have not started yet. I have been researching all the equipment I would need along with appliances etc... Once I decide on what I want in my bus I will start the design process. if you have any ideas please share them with me!
